Minhaz Uddin Wins Bangladesh National Chess Championship 2026

IM Md Minhaz Uddin is the new champion of Bangladesh. He won the Bangladesh National Chess Championship 2026 with 7.5 points from 9 games.

The championship was a 9-round Swiss with 90 minutes per player plus 30 seconds per move. Some of the strongest players in the country took part.

Minhaz Uddin finished in style. In the final round he beat FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman in only 37 moves with White in a Najdorf Sicilian.

IM Manon Reja Neer finished second with 7 points after winning his own last game against FM Sharif Hossain. FM Sajid Sakline Mostafa took third place with 6.5 points, ahead of FM Tahsin Tajwar Zia and FM Biswas Subrota on tiebreak.

Winning a national championship is a special achievement. National titles often bring a place on the national team and the chance to represent your country in international events.

The final round of a championship is often the hardest game of all. Players know that one result can decide the title, and the pressure can make even strong players nervous. Minhaz Uddin showed how to handle it, by playing confidently and finishing with a clean win.

For young players, national championships show what is possible. Many of the players in this event started by playing in school and junior tournaments, and worked their way up through years of practice.

Congratulations to Md Minhaz Uddin on winning the national title.
