Romanian Team Chess Championship 2026: ACS Superchess Perfect After Five

ACS Superchess has made a perfect start at the Romanian Team Chess Championships 2026 in Eforie Nord. After five rounds of the Men's Super League, the team has won all five of its matches and leads with 10 match points.

The Super League is a 10-team round-robin. Each match is played over six boards at a classical time control, so a team needs strength in depth to do well. In round 5, ACS Superchess beat Sah Club Oltenia Craiova 4-2.

Vados IFB Finwest Arad is in second place with 8 match points. Arad had the biggest win of round 5, beating CSU Universitatea de Vest Timisoara 5-1. ACS Arnia Chessit is third with 7 match points.

Round 5 also had some close matches. ACS ACB Ineu and ACS Pionii Regelui Romanesti drew 3-3. CS Sparta Techirghiol won narrowly against CSU ASE Bucuresti by 3.5 to 2.5, and the Baia Mare chess club beat ACS Arnia Chessit by the same score.

National team leagues are an important part of chess in many countries. Clubs often bring in strong players from abroad, so league matches give local players the chance to play against grandmasters from around the world. For young players in a club team, these matches are some of the most valuable experience they can get.

There is a lesson in how team leagues are scored. A team wins a match by scoring more points across all six boards. A 3.5-2.5 win counts just the same as a 6-0 win in the standings. That means every board matters. Even a draw on the bottom board can decide a match.

Four rounds remain in the league, which finishes on 11 October.
